Just What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?
People who have tried to deal with a facial trait that they were unhappy with for a long period of time might have considered cosmetic dentistry as an option. Some people have to have it done because they’re born with something like either an over or underbite, meaning that they have trouble doing simple things like eating and talking. If you’ve never had surgery before, this operation might be somewhat daunting. Even more daunting are the costs incurred from having a surgery of this caliber performed on you. If you’re unsure as to whether this sort of dental surgery is right for you, you’re reading the right article.
These sorts of procedures are performed by a professional oral and maxillofacial surgeon. More often than not, certain muscles in the jaw or mouth have to be cut then sewn back together to achieve a look that the patient is happy with. An operation that surgeons perform the most often is the removal of wisdom teeth that grow from as early at 18 years of age.
Speaking of wisdom teeth, I’m due to have mine removed pretty soon, on the August of 2010. The quote I got from the oral and maxillofacial surgeon was around $1300, $400 less than what my sister had when she did it. You might also like to call in an anaesthetist who will make sure you don’t feel any pain during the procedure. That’s probably going to be another $300-$400.
The important thing is that you can claim back a portion of the cost if you’re with private health insurance. I couldn’t claim back any costs with Medicare (it might be called Medicaid from where you’re reading this).
For most people, cosmetic dentistry will never cross their minds as an option. It’s just far too expensive. If you are really intent on getting this type of surgery done for the external benefits, make sure that you have adequate finances to do so.
It’s worth paying a bit extra for someone who you know will help you change your appearance with little risk of “screwing things up”. It’s simply time consuming, frustrating and emotionally stressful to not be happy wtih a procedure that’s cost you a lot of money. No one wants to pursue a legal battle, either.
Cosmetic dentistry has distinct advantages of improving quality of life, but only if you can afford it. If you can overcome the negative attitude you have towards your appearance, surgery doesn’t have to be an option.
